According to the Saudi Gazette on 3 May 2024, the Saudi General Authority for Foreign Trade (GAFT) has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of longitudinally welded circular cross-section stainless steel pipes from mainland China and Taiwan, China. This action is in accordance with the Trade Remedies in International Trade Act, which was enacted on 23 November 2022 .
The investigation is intended to address concerns that these products may be dumped into the Saudi market, which could harm the domestic steel industry. According to the regulations outlined in the Act, GAFT is responsible for carrying out trade remedy tasks, including conducting investigations and taking measures to comply with the Kingdom’s international commitments under various trade agreements, such as the Anti-Dumping Agreement, the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures (ASCM), and the Agreement on Safeguards (ASA).
The main purpose of this legislation and investigations is to safeguard the Kingdom’s economic interests by protecting domestic industries from the adverse effects of dumped and subsidised imports and preventing the proliferation of such imports.
