Inconel 601 is a nickel-chromium alloy with an addition of aluminum for outstanding resistance to oxidation and other forms of high-temperature corrosion. It also has high mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.

Applications of Inconel 601:

  • Inconel 601 is used in thermal processing, chemical processing, pollution control, aerospace, and power generation.

  • It is used for various types of thermal-processing equipment, including baskets, trays, fixtures for annealing, carburizing, carbonitriding, nitriding, and other heat-treating operations.

  • It is also used in industrial furnaces, radiant tubes, muffles, retorts, flame shields, strand-annealing tubes, woven-wire conveyor belts, chain curtains, burner nozzles, and electrical resistance heating elements.

Normal product forms: Pipes, tubes, sheets, strips, plates, round bars, flat bars, forgings, hexagons, wires, and extruded sections.

  • Nickel (Ni): 58.0-63.0%

  • Chromium (Cr): 21.0-25.0%

  • Iron (Fe): Balance

  • Aluminum (Al): 1.0-1.7%

  • Carbon (C): 0.10% max

  • Manganese (Mn): 1% max

  • Copper (Cu): 1% max

  • Sulfur (S): 0.015% max

  • Silicon (Si): 0.5% max

  • Electrical Resistivity: 717 ohm •circ mil/ft at 68°F or 1.19 μΩ•m at 20°C

  • Specific Heat: 0.107 BTU/lb·°F (32–212°F) or 448 J/kg·°K (0–100°C)

  • Thermal Conductivity: 78 Btu • in/ft2•h•°F or 11.2 W/m •°C

Mechanical Property:

  • Inconel 601 has high mechanical strength and is readily formed, machined, and welded2.
